Believing in a Dream | Creyendo en un Sueño

dreamcatcher“Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.’” (Matthew 1:20)

Native Peoples create a variety of artful expressions like the one pictured here known as “Dream Catchers.” They believe if they are open to catching the next dream, they will be led by the Great Spirit on their journey through life.

Dream Catchers are an apt symbol for us when listening to God speak in our hearts. Today’s Gospel for the feast of St. Joseph tells us that Joseph “caught” the message of God in a dream when an angel, a messenger from God, told him not to be afraid to take Mary into his home. Although creating confusion in Joseph that she was with child, he learned she was chosen by God for a special role in a Divine plan. Now Joseph too would be enrolled in God’s purpose.

When we are discerning, we also are trying to hear God’s message, to catch the dream God has for our lives! Our hearts are open. We are attentive to people and to what happens around us in our everyday lives. Today as we are keeping our distance from one another and from our everyday “normal” activities, what are you noticing? How are you feeling? What do you see and hear? Is there a call for you just waiting to be “caught”?

We watch with you for the next dream,
Sister Tarianne

Sometimes there’s not a straight line to your call

At other times the call goes straight to what you care about
