A Sister Reflects - Reflexión de una Hermana

God Persists | Dios Persiste

stairwayIn both the first reading and the Gospel for today we witness how persistent God is. In Exodus the conversation between God and Moses conveys how disappointed God is with the peoples’ choices which lead them away from him. In the Gospel Jesus is conversing with “the Jews”, that group who are critical of him and his ministry. Jesus tells them to identify him by the works that he does and by the words Moses wrote about him in the Scriptures. But they refuse to believe in him.

As discerners let’s focus on how God pursues and persists in wanting us to be disciples. There also are other places in Scripture where we see how God continues to call, never giving up. The Holy One is always discovering new ways to call people and finding different people to carry the message of God’s desires for us.

Make no mistake, God wants us close. God is close to us, even closer than our own breath, it seems. There are many ways to be close to God: through silence, through prayer, through inspiration, through loving acts of kindness and by speaking up for justice in our world. It is vital for each of us to sense where and how we are called to be a disciple of Jesus.

So there is the question: where and how might you be called? While you have more time in these days when most of us are staying at home, why not give some of that time to discern your response to this question.

Blessings on your reflection,

Dios Persiste

Hermana Tarianne
