Siena Heights University to Dedicate Centennial Mall for 100th Anniversary Year
Specify Alternate Text

August 12, 2019, Adrian, Michigan — Siena Heights University will open its 2019-2020 academic year— its Centennial Year — with the dedication of the Centennial Mall in front of Sacred Heart Hall. The dedication is slated for Monday, August 26, 2019, the first day of classes. The diverse elements of the Mall — a huge sculpture of a torch, 10 apple trees planted in rows of five on either side of a walkway, three flag poles, and the crucifix shape of the mall — are meant to remind the university community in years to come of the school’s Adrian Dominican heritage. The Adrian Dominican Sisters founded the university — then St. Joseph College — in 1919 and it remains a sponsored institution of the Congregation. Read the Daily Telegram article by Spencer Durham, detailing the development of the Centennial Mall.

Your plans to remind the University Community of the
School's Adrian Domincan Heritage with the dedication of Centennial Mall in front of Sacred Heart Hall point to
these "holy grounds" as an everasting contibution made by all Congregation's determined dedicated Adrian Women. It is beautiful and rich in symbolism for anyone who visits Siena Heights University Campus. I hope that
August 26, 2019 will be a bright, sunny and very proud day for all who participate. Congratulations as you all look forward to many more wonderful years on the Adrian Dominican Siena Heights University Campus with the addition of Centennial Mall!

This story was so interesting. I attended Rosary High School in Detroit and graduated in 1965. I attended Siena Heights College for Freshman and Sophomore years. I came very close to becoming an Adrian Dominican. God had other plans for me. My husband, Joseph and I will celebrate 50 years of marriage in September. Will there be space for visitors the day of the dedication? I attended many classes in Sacred Heart Hall. The education I received from the Adrian Dominicans Sisters gave me a strong backbone of knowledge and truth. I spent over 40 years in education in the Metro Detroit area teaching. Spirituality is still very vibrant in us, as we serve in many capacities at our parish, St. Thomas a' Becket in Canton, Michigan.
