Ecologist Sister Carol Coston, OP Working for the common good has been a hallmark of Sister Carol Coston’s life. She presently directs the Congregation’s Office of Permaculture, which is working to create and maintain a sustainable ecosystem on the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ campus. She previously co-directed Santuario Sisterfarm in Texas, which was dedicated to cultivating biodiversity and cultural diversity and living in right relationship with the whole Earth community. Sister Carol was the founding director of both NETWORK, the Washington, D.C.-based Catholic social justice lobby, and Partners for the Common Good, an award-winning alternative investment fund. In 2001, President Bill Clinton honored her with the Presidential Citizens Medal. The College of St. Catherine also awarded her the Alexandrine Medal for her leadership and contributions to social justice, women, and economic equity.
I am a graduate of Tampa Catholic HS class os 1969. I was recently in Indianapolis for the Eucharistic Congress2024., and I talked to a few of the Dominicans from different orders , and was directed to the Adrian Dominicans because of the Archives that are kept there. The story is as follows:I came from Cuba to the US, Tampa, Fl in 1960 with my parents. My mother and I went to a Dominican school in Habana Our Lady of the Rosary, Dominicas Francesas. The nuns were scattered to Ecuador, Colombia and a few in Miami. Three of the oldest ones were sent to Wauchula, Florida to do mission work there. My parents use to visit them every once in a while and take them out to lunch and they in turn would visit us in Tampa. After so many years we heard that they were sent up north to retire.I want to find out what happened to them and where they are buried. Their names areSor RosaSor MercedesSor JuanaAny information will be greatly appreciated.Yours in Christ,Maria Fernandez
Maria, I have emailed you with some information. Thanks!ADS Communications Office
Chris, I know Carol was hoping we could find you for an NFL reunion we had some years ago in Tampa. If you can get in touch with me, I'll pass it on to Carol. Br. Jerome Leo, OSB, aka Philip Hughes aka Tom Snout. You carried the play as Puck!
I was also one of Sister Carol’s students at Tampa Catholic way back in the 60s. Sister, your influence on my life cannot be overstated. You are an amazing person and a gift to all of us who have known you and while it’s been many years since we last talked I’ve been continually impressed by all you’ve done and accomplished. The Class of ‘67 was blessed to have you with us. Now may God continue to bless you!
