Sister Mary Ellen Leciejewski, OP

Sister Mary Ellen is the Director of Ecology for Dignity Health, the largest hospital system in California and the fifth largest in the nation. Based in San Francisco, Dignity Health has facilities in seventeen states.

Among many other recent efforts, Sister Mary Ellen served on the eco-team that helped create the hospitals’ ecology/sustainability program, developed tools to measure the system’s waste stream, developed a chemical reduction program, and established a hospital vegetable garden. Dignity Health recently became the first health care system in the country to switch to dye-free plastics, considerably reducing its environmental impact.

Hi Mary Ellen,
I have learned about you from Carol Coston in Adrian. We met soon after she arrived and have become better and better friends in faith, fun and action. I am a pediatrician and do ethics at our Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. We are part of the Mercy Health based in Cincinnati, the largest provider in the state of Ohio. We are many years behind you as an organization but now ready to roll. I and my Creation Care Team would LOVE to learn more from you and Dignity. Are you based in San Francisco? I am coming there next week for work and family. Maybe we could catch a minute in person.
Carol speaks hightly of you and your work which looks to be truly ground breaking.
Thank you!!,
Pam
