January 30, 2020, Adrian, Michigan – Weber Retreat and Conference Center’s popular Dine and Discuss Book Club continues from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2020, with discussion of A Place to Stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca.

In this memoir, Jimmy Santiago Baca writes about his life before, during, and immediately after his years in a maximum-security prison after he was convicted of selling drugs. Baca shares his journey from years in prison – many spent in solitary confinement – to learning to read and becoming one of the best poets in the United States.

For $15 participants receive the book and dinner, along with the opportunity to discuss the book with other participants. Register now and pick up your copy of the book at Weber Center.

January 30, 2020, Adrian, Michigan – Due to popular demand, Sister Esther Kennedy, OP, repeats the seven-part series, “Painting the Stars: Science, Religion, and Evolving Faith.” The series is held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays in February and March at Weber Retreat and Conference Center.

The topics for each talk are as follows:

  • February 17, 2020: Toward Healing the Rift
  • February 24, 2020: A Renaissance of Wonder
  • March 2, 2020: Getting Genesis Wrong
  • March 9, 2020: An Evolving Faith
  • March 16, 2020: Evolutionary Christianity
  • March 23, 2020: Imagining a Future
  • March 30, 2020: An Evolving Spirituality: Mysticism

Participants read selected materials before each session, then together watch a 20-minute video and join in a guided discussion. All materials for study are provided.

The cost is $30 for the series or $5 for each individual session. Registration is required and is available at www.webercenter.org; click on “programs.” Registration is also available by calling 517-266-4000 or emailing webercenter@adriandominicans.org. Limited scholarships are available.
