February 25, 2016, Adrian, Michigan – The Adrian Dominican Sisters have given the old St. Joseph Academy building to Siena Heights University. Opened in 1896, St. Joseph Academy was closed in 2012 because of declining enrollment. The building will undergo renovation before it is used for classrooms and faculty offices of Siena Heights. February 24, 2016, Flint, Michigan – Local social justice advocacy groups such as Power to Thrive spoke recently at a February 19 press conference on the need to work to bring about an end to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan – and noted that the problem goes beyond Flint. Power to Thrive works with Gamaliel, an organization that trains leaders and “empower[s] ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives.” Sister Cheryl Liske, OP, a community organizer, ministers as executive director of Gamaliel of Michigan.
