October 16, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – An exhibit of the artworks of Adrian Dominican Sisters and Associates will open Saturday, October 28, 2017, at INAI: A Space Apart, an art studio adjacent to Weber Retreat and Conference Center at the Adrian Dominican Sisters Motherhouse. An opening reception will be held that day from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The exhibit, Adrian Dominican Artists: A Review, will be open to the public from Saturday, October 28, 2017, through Saturday, February 24, 2018. The studio is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The exhibit will include paintings, photography, pottery, weaving, quilts, and other kinds of artwork by approximately 16 Adrian Dominican Sisters and four Associates – women and men who make a non-vowed commitment to live out the mission and vision of the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Suzanne Schreiber, OP, Coordinator of INAI: A Space Apart, described its unique heritage. “This space is dedicated to the creative spirit of Sisters Barbara Chenicek and Rita Schiltz, who, for 43 years, on this site created ‘sacred space,’ designing chapels and churches that invited contemplation, reflection, and response to the presence of the Spirit in today’s world.”
INAI, a Japanese word meaning within, captures the spirit of contemplation meant to permeate the new space.
