Leaders of U.S. Catholic Sisters Urge President Obama to Seek a Binding Agreement on Climate Change at Paris Talks

September 23, 2015, Washington, DC – On the occasion of the state visit to the United States by Pope Francis, more than 200 elected leaders of U.S. Catholic women religious – including Sister Attracta Kelly, OP, Prioress, and other elected leaders of the Adrian Dominican Sisters -- have written to President Obama. 

In the letter, delivered to the White House on September 22, the Sisters call on the President to play a leadership role in negotiating “a binding agreement among all nations that will keep global average temperatures below 1.5 degrees Celsius relative to pre-industrial levels.” 

At the White House today, Pope Francis cited his encyclical letter Laudato Si, saying, "We still have time to make the changes needed to bring about 'a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change."
