By Cara Scarola Hansen Director of Marketing and Communications, Rosarian Academy February 10, 2021, West Palm Beach, Florida – Rosarian Academy started the school week of February 1, 2021, with Prayer in Motion for a Cure as the school community gathered over Zoom to pray together for a cure to breast cancer and other special intentions.
Prayer intentions and 30-second intervals of exercise were incorporated into praying a decade of the Rosary. Students dressed in pink in honor of breast cancer awareness and the Susan G. Komen Florida Race for the Cure.
Cate Frerichs, eighth-grader and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) member, organized a Rosarian Academy virtual Race for the Cure team. Cate and classmate Eleanor Hall, also a member of NJHS, led all students, faculty, and parents in the Prayer in Motion for A Cure activity to kick off Catholic Schools Week and serve as the school team’s virtual race. Students participated from their classrooms or homes, depending on where they were attending class.
Prayer intentions included: all those battling breast cancer and all other cancers; the Adrian Dominican Sisters (the founders of Rosarian) who have died from COVID-19; the homeless; all those who currently have COVID-19; protection over those who are quarantined from exposure to the coronavirus; the school family; all who are sick; the leaders of our country; peace in our world; protection over our troops; family members; the lonely and the elderly; a cure for cancer and the greater advancement of medicine; and everyone’s personal intentions.
Prayer in Motion for A Cure was a strong start to Catholic Schools Week, January 31-February 6, 2021. Catholic Schools Week is celebrated annually on a national level, the last week in January/first week in February. Catholic schools observe the week with Masses, open houses, service projects and gatherings. Through these events, schools focus on the values of Catholic education. The COVID-19 pandemic is making Catholic schools rethink ways to celebrate the week.
Rosarian Academy, founded in 1925, is celebrating its 95th year educating students in Palm Beach County. The independent, Catholic school serves students from early childhood through eighth grade and offers an academic program enriched by athletics, visual and performing arts, and community service opportunities. Rosarian is sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
