April 25, 2024, Miami, Florida – Barry University on April 5, 2024, inaugurated a state-of-the-art podcast studio at the David Brinkley Broadcast Studio to enrich communications programs and offer students real-world experiences. Alum and Fox Sports broadcaster and ESPN co-host Joy Taylor joined Barry University President Mike Allen, PhD, to cut the ribbon at the ceremony.
“At Barry University, we committed to providing hands-on learning experiences for our students to ensure they are well-equipped with the resources and skills they need to enter the workforce immediately,” Dr. Allen said. “The introduction of our new podcast studio opens doors to a $2 billion revenue and growing industry.”
During the ribbon cutting, Joy joined students in recording the studio’s first podcast segment. She discussed her time on campus, delved into her career as a media personality, and provided insights for students looking to enter the profession.
“I was somewhere where they valued not just students but the experience that you have,” Joy said about her experience at Barry University during an interview with student Maria Jose Fernandez. “All my professors were very intentional. I had the ability to learn all the behind-the-scenes things that go on in the business.”
Joy was appointed to the Barry University Board of Trustees. With her background in sports broadcasting, from her early days on campus to her prominent role at Fox Sports, Joy brings a wealth of experience and a unique voice to the Barry Board. Her journey from the executive producer and co-host of Miami’s top morning show to a key figure in national sports discussions embodies the leadership and innovative thinking Barry University values.
