By Sister Phyllis Sikora, OP Service Area Vice President, Mission Integration and Spiritual Care Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Hospitals
Henderson, Nevada, September 9, 2020 – In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Hospitals celebrated a sign of hope with the opening and blessing of the first phase of the renovation of its Rose de Lima Campus. The event, held on August 24, 2020, coincided with the Feast of St. Rose of Lima (1586-1617), a member of the Dominican Third Order known for her piety.
The renovation involved transforming the front lobby, gift shop, registration, and the Intensive Care Unit into a smaller lobby, a Wellness and Out-Reach Center, Education Suite, and the Marketing and Communication Department.
The renovation also includes a History Wall that traces the commitment of Adrian Dominican Sisters and the Community of Henderson. The campus continues its commitment to serving the local community by providing healthcare through an Emergency Department that sees 50 patients a day and a 10-bed unit that cares for medical non-acute patients.
The Rose de Lima Campus is currently exploring options to lease out the third and fourth floors to other medical entities, such as Behavioral Health and Hospice.
The transformation is the result of a Values-Based Discernment program on August 22, 2016. The leadership at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals invited Adrian Dominican Sisters Prioress Sister Patricia Siemen, OP, and Vicaress Sister Mary Margaret Pachucki, OP, to participate in this discernment of the future of the Rose de Lima Campus.
The leadership engaged in a two-year process to explore what the Rose de Lima Campus could contribute to the local community and to the other two hospitals, Siena in Henderson and San Martín in Las Vegas. Participants were diligent in exploring all of the proposals put to them.
We have moved from sadness, loss, letting-go, and transition into joy and celebration that our vision continues to evolve. We remain open to where we are being led and to what we become.
