February 4, 2022, Adrian, Michigan – Siena Heights University’s Shanterra Holmes was the 2022 recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Service Award. She was scheduled to receive the award at the annual Adrian Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, which was canceled due to COVID precautions.
Shanterra, a senior majoring in biology with a pre-med focus, is from Flint, Michigan. At Siena Heights, she participates in student government, women’s lacrosse, the Xi Omega Chapter of the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, and Club MED. She also is a McNair Scholar and a participant in the Student Support Services program. In addition, Shanterra has volunteered at the Lenawee Humane Society, the Fishes and Loaves food pantry, the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ permaculture area, and the National Honor Society. She plans to attend graduate school and then medical school to pursue a career as an OB-GYN doctor in the area of health care equity. Siena Heights University, a Catholic university founded and sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, is a coeducational institution founded in the liberal arts tradition.
