November 25, 2019, Adrian, Michigan – During Siena Heights University’s final home football game against Marian (Indiana), Siena Heights Athletics, Campus Ministry, and Advancement Office coordinated a coat drive. In total, 70 coats were donated by fans in exchange for a ticket to the game.
“Our program is very happy we were able to use this game of football as a tool to positively impact individuals in our community,” said Matt Kohn, Saints Head Football Coach. “A huge thanks to Tom Puszczewicz and Sue Syljebeck for helping and allowing this event to take place.” Sue is the Interim Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach.
Tom, from Campus Ministry, and student Kaitlyn Malley collected the coats. Share the Warmth, the homeless shelter in Adrian, received 45 men’s and women’s coats. Kristin Foerg of the Advancement Office delivered 25 coats to Karmen Wilharms at Lenawee Urban Exchange for its LUX Closet.
“The word has gotten out there on social media,” Tom said. “We received coats from the Marian faithful; SHU grandparents from Lima, Ohio; and SHU family members from Detroit. The first SHU coat drive was a win-win for all involved.”
