There’s definitely a reason why department stores and small clothing shops have fitting rooms. Yes, of course they want you to buy their merchandise, but they also want to save everyone time and money returning items that don’t fit. They want customers to see if the clothing fits. Is it the right color, the right size? In addition to price, these are important factors.

The same is true when discerning whether a call to a religious life in a particular congregation is right for the person discerning. The question, “Does it fit?” is a vital one. Not only is a discerning young woman asking if religious life fits her sense of herself and what she wants to do with her life, but she also is asking does this congregation fit for her? Does their manner of living, their kinds of ministry, their prayer styles and values they bring to the Church and society (their charism) fit for her? Important questions such as these are practical parts of the discernment process. Sometimes the only way to tell is to try it on. 

Such a try-it-on experience is available for you the weekend of October 23-24 when we host a virtual Come and See Discernment Retreat. This opportunity is for you to see whether the Adrian Dominican Congregation fits with how you feel called to commit your life. The information and registration form can be found here.

¿Le Queda? 

Definitivamente hay una razón por la cual las tiendas de ropa grandes y pequeñas tienen cuartos donde uno se prueba la ropa. Sí, por supuesto, quieren que usted compre la ropa, pero también quieren ahorrarles tiempo y dinero a todas al devolver artículos que no les queden. Quieren que los clientes vean si la ropa les queda bien. ¿Es del color correcto, del tamaño correcto? Además del precio, estos son factores importantes.

Lo mismo ocurre cuando se discierne si un llamado a la vida religiosa en una congregación en particular es adecuada para la persona que discierne. La pregunta: "¿Le queda?” es vital. Una joven en discernimiento no solo pregunta si la vida religiosa le queda a su sentido de sí misma y qué quiere hacer con su vida, sino que también pregunta si esta congregación le queda a ella. ¿Su forma de vida, sus tipos de ministerios, sus estilos de oración y los valores que aportan a la Iglesia y a la Sociedad (su Carisma) le quedan a ella? Preguntas importantes como estas son partes prácticas del proceso del discernimiento. A veces, la única forma de saberlo es en probárselo.

Tal experiencia de prueba está disponible para usted el fin de semana del 23 al 24 de Octubre cuando patrocinaremos el Retiro virtual de discernimiento Ven y Vea.
