Looking back it seemed dramatic to her. Susan, a new college graduate with a degree in accounting, was embarking on her career with a large accounting firm. She had prepared in college for this path and was eager to begin to live her dream.

Not long afterwards, Susan was invited by a local nonprofit organization to join their board and was quickly elected its treasurer. She not only found her day job interesting but she was beginning to devote more and more time to the nonprofit volunteer work as well. On a bright, sunny morning, one of the residents served by the nonprofit opened the door as the young woman arrived. He had Down’s Syndrome as did all the residents at the site. What happened next shifted the young woman’s life in an unexpected way. David graciously showed her around the residence, introducing her to the others who lived with him. 

After that experience, Susan spent extra time interacting with the residents and staff members. In time Sister Maureen, the director, invited her to consider working there as their full-time accountant. Over the next two years Susan arrived daily at the site and grew to love the people and the work. She also began to think this might be the path where she could devote her life’s energy. She wasn’t making the big bucks she’d thought was important to her, but she was having an impact that brought her joy.

Just that one event of being welcomed by David, opened the door to possibilities Susan had never imagined while in school. She realized what her grandmother had told her: to receive the Spirit’s direction for our life choices we have to ready ourselves and notice when the guidance arrives. Giro Repentino a la Derecha

Mirando hacia atrás, le pareció dramático. Susan, una nueva graduada universitaria con un título en contabilidad, se embarcaba en su carrera en una gran empresa de contabilidad. Se había preparado en la universidad para este camino y estaba ansiosa por comenzar a vivir su sueño.

No mucho después, Susan fue invitada por una organización local sin fines de lucro para unirse a su mesa directiva y rápidamente fue elegida como tesorera. No solo encontraba interesante su trabajo diario, sino que también comenzaba a dedicar más y más tiempo al trabajo voluntario sin fines de lucro. En una mañana brillante y soleada, uno de los residentes atendidos por la organización sin fines de lucro abrió la puerta cuando llegó la joven. El tenía el síndrome de Down’s al igual que todos los residentes en el lugar. Lo que sucedió después cambió la vida de la joven de una manera inesperada. David gentilmente le mostró la residencia y le presentó a los demás que vivían con él.

Después de esa experiencia, Susan pasó más tiempo interactuando con los residentes y los miembros del personal. Con el tiempo, la Hermana Maureen, la directora, la invitó a considerar trabajar allí como contadora a tiempo completo. Durante los siguientes dos años, Susan llegó diariamente al lugar y llegó a amar a las personas y el trabajo. También comenzó a pensar que este podría ser el camino donde podría dedicar la energía de su vida. Ella no ganaba tanto dinero que había pensado que era importante para ella, pero estaba teniendo un impacto que le traía alegría.

Solo ese evento de ser bienvenida por David, abrió la puerta a posibilidades que Susan nunca había imaginado mientras estaba en la escuela. Se dio cuenta de lo que su abuela le había dicho: para recibir la dirección del Espíritu para nuestras decisiones de la vida, tenemos que prepararnos y notar cuándo llega la guía. ¿Qué está notando que podría convertirse en un posible camino de vida?
