Alleluia!

This past Thursday evening, I arrived at our Motherhouse shortly before the Holy Thursday services were to begin. Since then, I have been blessed to have had time to see, share meals, visit and pray with countless numbers of my Sisters. What an incredible blessing this has been!

Since I live in the Chicago area, I am only able to be in Adrian, Michigan, where my Motherhouse is located, several times a year. But how blessed I have been to share this Triduum with the women with whom I share faith and life! While I happen to live with other Sisters in a wonderful parish, where liturgies are life-giving and where there are countless ways in which to participate in social justice issues and other community events, it has been quite a number of years since I spent the Triduum in Adrian.

During the past few days, I have been very aware of many changes on our campus. And while we, like most other religious Congregations, have become considerably smaller than we were when I entered the community in 1967, I would like to share that We are alive and well, and our spirit continues to flourish!!! 

Most everyone who has studied “the future of religious life” agrees that Congregations will become smaller than they were in the 1950s and '60s. But this does not mean that they will no longer exist. It simply means that religious life, like all of life, is changing! What is not changing? 

As I celebrated with my many Sisters, here in Adrian, and as I looked at our beautiful choir, composed primarily of women in their 80s, whose voices continue to be strong in their praise of our loving God, I also delighted to see and hear the marvelous voices of two of our youngest Sisters. Yes, I could not help but remember the many women with whom I entered this community in 1967. But I also rejoiced in the beauty of what I saw, two lovely young women who believe that they are called to carry on the Dominican Charism, called “to praise, to bless, and to preach” the love of God, wherever they may be sent.

Might God be inviting you to extol the goodness of God? Please, do not be afraid to ask yourself this question. And when you do, remember that God’s love is faithful and strong. Alleluia!

¡Aleluya!

El jueves pasado por la tarde llegué a nuestra Casa Madre poco antes de que comenzaran los servicios del Jueves Santo. Desde entonces, he tenido la bendición de haber tenido tiempo de ver, compartir comidas, visitar y orar con innumerables hermanas mías. ¡Qué increíble bendición esto ha sido!

Como vivo en el área de Chicago, sólo puedo estar en Adrian, Michigan, donde está ubicada mi Casa Madre, varias veces al año. ¡Pero qué bendecida he sido al compartir este Triduo con las mujeres con quienes comparto fe y vida! Aunque vivo con otras hermanas en una parroquia maravillosa, donde las liturgias dan vida y donde hay innumerables maneras de participar en cuestiones de justicia social y otros eventos comunitarios, han pasado bastantes años desde que pasé la Triduo en Adrián.

Durante los últimos días, he estado muy consciente de muchos cambios en nuestro campus. Y aunque nosotras, como la mayoría de las otras Congregaciones religiosas, nos hemos vuelto considerablemente más pequeñas de lo que éramos cuando entré a la comunidad en 1967, me gustaría compartir que ¡¡¡Estamos bien y vivas, y nuestro espíritu continúa floreciendo!!!

Casi todos los que han estudiado “el futuro de la vida religiosa” están de acuerdo en que las Congregaciones serán más pequeñas de lo que eran en los años 1950’s y 60’s. Pero esto no significa que ya no existirán. ¡Significa simplemente que la vida religiosa, como toda la vida, está cambiando! ¿Qué no está cambiando? 

Mientras celebraba con muchas de mis hermanas, aquí en Adrian, y mientras miraba a nuestro hermoso coro, compuesto principalmente de mujeres en los 80’s, cuyas voces continúan siendo fuertes en su alabanza a nuestro amoroso Dios, también me deleitó ver y escuchar las maravillosas voces de dos de mis hermanas menores. Sí, no pude evitar recordar a las muchas mujeres con las que entré a esta comunidad en 1967. Pero también me regocijé por la belleza de lo que vi, dos hermosas mujeres jóvenes que creen ser llamadas a llevar adelante el carisma Domínico, llamadas “a alabar, bendecir y predicar” el amor de Dios, dondequiera que sean enviadas.

¿Podría Dios estar invitándola a ensalzar la bondad de Dios? Por favor, no tenga miedo de hacerse esta pregunta. Y cuando lo haga, recuerde que el amor de Dios es fiel y fuerte. ¡Aleluya!
