Here we are, once again, at the beginning of a new year. Many of us, at one time or another, have started the new year with one or more "resolutions." Sometimes these are simple; sometimes they are very complicated and unrealistic. When the latter is the case, we are not very likely to be successful.

Several years ago, a good friend of mine shared with me a practice that he had had for a significant number of years. He said something like: "I try to find one word that expresses how I want to BE during the next year." The word serves as a reminder and an inspiration for the coming months. By focusing on one word, my friend is not inclined to put time and useless energy into his failure, but rather to look towards how he can continue to become a better person. Some chosen words might be accepting, deliberate, generous, hopeful, humble, intentional, kind, patient, prayerful, trusting, vulnerable. Nouns, verbs, adjectives…whatever speaks to your heart.

Comenzando de Nuevo

Aquí estamos, una vez más, al comienzo de un nuevo año. Muchas de nosotras, en un momento u otro, hemos comenzado el nuevo año con una o más “resoluciones”. A veces estos son sencillas; a veces son muy complicados y poco realistas. Cuando lo último es el caso, no es muy probable que tengamos éxito.

Hace varios años, un buen amigo mío compartió conmigo una práctica que había tenido por muchos años. Dijo algo así como: “Trato de encontrar una palabra que exprese cómo quiero SER durante el próximo año”. La palabra sirve como recordatorio e inspiración para los próximos meses. Al concentrarse en una sola palabra, mi amigo no se inclina a dedicar tiempo y energía inútil a su fracaso, sino más bien a buscar cómo puede continuar convirtiéndose en una mejor persona. Algunas palabras elegidas pueden ser aceptación, deliberado, generoso, esperanzado, humilde, intencional, amable, paciente, devoto, confiado, vulnerable. Sustantivos, verbos, adjetivos... lo que le hable al corazón.
