During the month of November, we are encouraged to remember those women and men, our ancestors in faith, who have gone before us, saints and sinners. In many cultures, this is a time to recall deceased family members and friends, and to share stories of these souls who have impacted our lives in so many ways.

As we begin this month, a month when days grow shorter and darkness begins to fill more of our time and space, let us enter into a reflective mode and welcome the darkness. Let us remember that Christ is our light and our life. Invite God to be with you in the dark and in the quiet.

On the first day of this month, the Feast of All Saints, the Gospel reading is Matthew’s account of the Beatitudes (chapter 5). These words remind us of what it means to be a discerning follower of Jesus. Those who cast their lot with Jesus, do not take major decisions lightly. In prayer this week, ask that all your decisions, particularly those you make while voting, be guided by the light of Christ.

Durante el mes de noviembre, se nos estimula a recordar a aquellas mujeres y hombres, nuestros antepasados en la fe, que nos han precedido, santos y pecadores. En muchas culturas, este es un momento para recordar a familiares y amigos fallecidos, y para compartir historias de estos seres queridos que han impactado nuestras vidas de muchas maneras.

Al comenzar este mes, un mes en el que los días se acortan y la oscuridad comienza a llenar más nuestro tiempo y espacio, entremos en un modo reflexivo y demos la bienvenida a la oscuridad. Recordemos que Cristo es nuestra luz y nuestra vida. Invita a Dios a estar con usted en la oscuridad y en la quietud.

En el primer día de este mes, la Fiesta de Todos los Santos, la lectura del Evangelio es el relato de las Bienaventuranzas de Mateo (capítulo 5). Estas palabras nos recuerdan lo que significa ser un seguidor perspicaz de Jesús. Aquellos que se unen a Jesús, no toman las decisiones importantes a la ligera. En oración esta semana, pide que todas sus decisiones, particularmente las que tome mientras vote, sean guiadas por la luz de Cristo.
