There is a tradition of blessing the doorways of a home on Epiphany, signing the doorway with the initials, “C.M.B.,” which can stand for the magi – Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar – or Christus mansionum benedicat, meaning “Christ bless this home.” During the blessing, we acknowledge that these doors are the gateways to our home, or a place that feels homelike, where we feel safe and comfortable. But doorways are not just the entry point to a place that is safe, but the place where we experience transition. Blessing doorways on Epiphany is therefore not only a time when we remember the visit of the Magi to visit the infant Jesus, but it is a time when we are invited to remember that we, too, are in a time of transition as we leave behind one calendar year and begin a new year.

As we stand before our blessed doorways in the new year of 2022, we are invited to recognize the ways that we are in transition and to embrace new transitions moving forward. This may be as drastic as moving to a new place, or it might be the interior change of recognizing that we need to work on something within ourselves. May we know the blessing of God in all parts of our life in 2022, especially those parts where we experience transition.

Puertas de Bendición

Existe una tradición durante la Epifanía de bendecir las entradas de un hogar, firmando la entrada con las iniciales, "CMB", que pueden representar a los magos, Gaspar, Melchor y Balthasar, o Christus mansionum benedicat, lo que significa que Cristo bendiga este hogar. Durante la bendición, reconocemos que estas puertas son los pórticos a nuestros hogares, o un lugar que se siente como nuestro hogar, donde nos sentimos seguras y cómodas. Pero las puertas no solo son el punto de entrada a un lugar seguro, sino el lugar donde experimentamos la transición. Por lo tanto, bendecir las entradas durante la Epifanía no es solo un momento en el que recordamos la visita de los Magos para visitar al niño Jesús, sino que es un momento en el que se nos invita a recordar que también nosotras estamos en un momento de transición dajando atrás un año y comenzando un año nuevo.

Al estar ante nuestras puertas bendecidas en el nuevo año de 2022, se nos invita a reconocer las formas en que nos encontramos en transición y a aceptar nuevas transiciones en el futuro. Esto puede ser tan drástico como mudarse a un nuevo lugar, o puede ser el cambio interior de reconocer que necesitamos trabajar en algo dentro de nosotras mismas. Que podamos conocer la bendición de Dios en todas las partes de nuestra vida en el 2022, especialmente en aquellas partes en las que experimentamos la transición.
