Exploring the Word
In today’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles, a representative of the Queen of the Ethiopians is trying to understand the book of Isaiah. God sends the apostle Philip to join him and offer instruction into what exactly the scripture passage meant and brought Jesus alive to his student.
Scripture coming alive is an important part of exploring God’s invitation to religious life. And as the unnamed student recognized, it is important to bring the wisdom of others to deepen understanding. The world offers many ways to grow in the understanding of scripture and the understanding of Jesus, whether it is by reading the Bible daily, listening to a podcast, belonging to a prayer group, or being attentive at Mass, just to name a few. Breaking open the Word is a wonderful way to explore what God is asking of us and experiencing it with others allows us to bring depth to our understanding of God. What is a new way you might explore the Word of God during this Eastertide?
