Pondering the Mysteries of God

In recent weeks, our Sunday Scripture readings have invited us to celebrate several mysteries of our faith: the feast of Pentecost, the feast of the Holy Trinity, and the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. Each of these is a beautiful feast that invites us to ponder how God is present to us.

Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit, whose gifts are made manifest in each of us who chooses to receive her gifts. The feast of the Holy Trinity celebrates the mystery of God as three persons in one, and this past Sunday’s feast of the Body and Blood of Christ invites us to reflect upon the outpouring of God’s love in the person of Jesus, one like us in all things but sin.

As we ponder the mysteries of God present to us, with us, and among us, I suggest that we also reflect upon how we consciously attend to that presence. How do I wish to express and celebrate God’s self-gift to me? Is that as a single woman or man? Is it as a spouse and parent? Is it as a sister, a brother, or a priest who chooses to commit oneself to God and God’s people?

Life itself is a mystery. The Church celebrates these mysteries throughout the year. Do not be afraid to recognize the mysterious ways of God and to ask God to be with you as you ponder how God most desires to celebrate your unique gifts.

En las últimas semanas, nuestras lecturas dominicales de las Escrituras nos han invitado a celebrar varios misterios de nuestra fe: la fiesta de Pentecostés, la fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad y la fiesta del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Cada una de ellas es una hermosa fiesta que nos invita a reflexionar sobre cómo Dios está presente en nosotros.

Pentecostés celebra la venida del Espíritu Santo, cuyos dones se manifiestan en cada una de nosotras que elige recibir sus dones. La fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad celebra el misterio de Dios como tres personas en una, y la fiesta del Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo de este domingo pasado nos invita a reflexionar sobre el derramamiento del amor de Dios en la persona de Jesús, uno como nosotras en todas las cosas menos en el pecado.

Mientras reflexionamos sobre los misterios de Dios presentes ante nosotras, con nosotras y entre nosotras, sugiero que también reflexionemos sobre cómo atendemos conscientemente a esa presencia. ¿Cómo deseo expresar y celebrar el don de Dios hacia mí? ¿Será como mujer o como hombre soltero? ¿Será como cónyuge y padre? ¿Será como una hermana, un hermano o un sacerdote que elige comprometerse con Dios y el pueblo de Dios?

La vida misma es un misterio. La Iglesia celebra estos misterios durante todo el año. No tema reconocer los misteriosos caminos de Dios y pedirle que esté usted mientras reflexione sobre cómo Dios más desea celebrar sus dones únicos.
