I am always stunned by Abraham’s response to God’s call to leave everything behind that he had built in his life on the land that he had inherited and move with his family and all his earthly belongings – somewhere! Somewhere!! As he began to respond, he had absolutely no idea where that “somewhere” was located (“land that I will show you, said the Lord”). It brought to mind all the iPhone and iPad searches where I look up directions and have a voice-activated map give me directions when I go on a journey to unfamiliar places.

Yes, Abraham and Sarah had faith in God’s invitation and God’s promise. Can we imagine that kind of faith for ourselves? In my braver, more adventurous moments, yes I can.

In discerning what God calls us to do with our precious lives, where we would be happiest and make the most difference, we are called to just such faith in God. Of course, like Abraham, we need to quiet ourselves sometimes so we can really listen. I invite you to take that kind of time now, during Lent, to ask God to give you what you need to follow God’s call. Is it courage? Insight? Information? A sense of adventure? There’s no better time than now, during these forty days of Lent. Go ahead and ask.

¡Que Clase de Fe!

Siempre me sorprende la respuesta de Abraham al llamado de Dios de dejar atrás todo lo que había construido en su vida en la tierra que había heredado y mudarse con su familia y todas sus pertenencias terrenales - ¡a algún lugar! ¡¡ A algún lugar!! Al responder, no tenía ni idea a dónde se encontraba ese "en algún lugar" ("tierra que te mostraré, dijo el Señor"). Me vino a la mente todas las búsquedas en mi iPhone y iPad donde he buscado direcciones y tengo un mapa activado por voz que me da direcciones cuando voy de viaje a lugares desconocidos.

Sí, Abraham y Sara tenían fe en la invitación de Dios y en la promesa de Dios. ¿Podemos imaginar esa clase de fe para nosotras mismas? En mis momentos cuando me siento más valiente y aventurosa, sí puedo.

Al discernir lo que Dios nos llama a hacer con nuestras preciosas vidas, donde seríamos más felices y haríamos la mayor diferencia, somos llamadas a tener tal fe en Dios. Por supuesto, como Abraham, a veces necesitamos callarnos para poder verdaderamente escuchar. Las invito a tomar ese tipo de tiempo ahora, durante la Cuaresma, para pedirle a Dios que les dé lo que necesitan para seguir el llamado de Dios. ¿Será valor? ¿Conocimiento? ¿Información? ¿Un sentido de la aventura? No hay mejor momento que ahora, durante estos cuarenta días de Cuaresma. Ande y pida.
