A Sister Reflects - Reflexión de una Hermana

You Don’t Mean Me, Do You? | No Te Refieres a Mí, ¿Verdad?

A statue sitting to the side wondering with signs asking Really?

Last Sunday the Gospel told the story of Thomas the Apostle who doubted that his friends and co-disciples had really seen Jesus alive. Because he hadn’t been present, he didn’t have the experience they had of seeing him again, fully alive. Thomas was so sure of himself that he spoke strongly of his doubt, almost as though he was more sure of his doubting than that Jesus could be alive again.

Doubting also can be part of the discernment process. At certain times I can be so sure God couldn’t be calling me to follow in religious life. I might go on for years ignoring the signs that God is drawing me closer.  Finally, one day someone I admire and respect makes a comment to me or I read something and realize those words are meant for me and I can ignore God’s call no longer. As Thomas did, I begin to pay attention differently.

I experience God’s message as meant for me. In each of our own unique ways, we say, as Thomas did, “My Lord and my God!” and the journey continues differently.

Let me know if I can support you in your discerning,

Sister Tarianne

No Te Refieres a Mí, ¿Verdad?

Hermana Tarianne
