Sister Mary Elizabeth Waldron, known as Betty to her family and friends, was born in Tampa, Florida, on September 21, 1935. Her father and mother were both from Clayburg, New York, a small town in the Adirondack Mountains. When they met, her mother was a teacher in a one room school house. In her autobiography, Sister Betty explained how they became Floridians.
