Sister Janice Scholl, OP

Sister Janice Scholl, formerly known as Sister Peter Ann, died on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 92 years of age and in the 72nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister was born in Chicago to Robert and Dorothy (Williams) Scholl. She graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago and received a bachelor’s degree in history from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a master’s degree in history from Albuquerque University in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

Sister Janice ministered for 35 years in elementary education in Detroit, Michigan; St. Petersburg, Florida; Tucson, Douglas, Casa Grande, and Mesa, Arizona; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and San Bernardino and Fullerton, California. This includes 16 years as principal in addition to teaching. 

She also served for three years as secretary for the Dominican Southwest Chapter Office in Mesa, Arizona, and for 16 years as admitting clerk and medical records clerk at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, a legacy institution of the Adrian Dominican Congregation, in Henderson, Nevada. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2017.

Sister Janice is survived by three sisters, Gail Thornquist, Susan Labotz (Kurt), and Diane Scholl; two brothers, Robert Scholl (Colleen) and Richard Scholl (Mary); other loving family members; and her Adrian Dominican Sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Peter and Gary; and a sister, Patricia Wieman.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in the gathering space of St. Catherine Chapel. The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026. Prayers of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery.
