(1921-2016)
Sister Helen Duggan, born January 11, 1921, in Essex, Ontario, Canada, was the sixth of ten children born to Charles and Anna (O’Neil) Duggan. Her mother was born in Ontario and her father was born in Emporia, Kansas. Both parents were of Irish descent. They met in Toledo when her mother was studying nursing and after their marriage in 1906 they moved to Lima, Ohio, where her father worked as a conductor on the Lake Erie and Western Railroad.

I remember Sr. Helen (then, Sr. Ann Charles) from Dominican High School, Detroit. I would have recognized her anywhere. Blessings and prayers to and for a wonderful Dominican.
I am a former Adrian Dominican who had the privilege of taking a science class from Sr. Helen when I was a postulant. I was sent out "on mission" for two weeks during that semester and she reassured me and caught me up with the assignments (as only she could) when I came back to Adrian. Many years later, when I returned to Adrian for the "Adrian Connection" weekend, there Sr. Helen was, reassuring me once again, and letting me know how welcome I was. I love her. Blessings to all. Carol Elsholz ( former S.Maura Anthony)
Our Adrian Dominican cemetery with its circular headstones is a beautiful place of rest for women who gave their lives in service to God — and a peaceful place for contemplation and remembrance.
