Sister Luisa Campos, baptized Mercedes Luisa Campos and formerly known as Sister Marie Lolín, died on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 89 years of age and in the 62nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Luisa was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, to Francisco and Dolores (Villalón) Campos. She graduated from Jose Dubeau High School in Puerto Plata. She obtained licentiates in theology and in Scripture, both from Escola Dominicana de Teología in São Paulo, Brazil; a Doctor of Law degree from Santo Domingo University in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; a bachelor’s degree in humanities from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian; and a bachelor’s degree in Theology from Escola Dominicana de Teología.

Sister Luisa ministered for more than eight years in education in Michigan, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, including two years as principal and one year as assistant principal. She served one year in programming services and two years as social awareness coordinator at the Colegio Santo Domingo in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. 

As a lawyer, she was the founding director of the Dominican Center for Legal Advice and Research (CEDAIL) in Santo Domingo and co-founded Ciudad Alternativa. She also served on the Justice/Peace Project Team at Centro Antonio Montesino, Santo Domingo, for more than 20 years. 

Sister Luisa became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lourdes Campos Villalón and Maria Theresa Campos Villalón; and a brother, Francisco Campos Villalón. She is survived by other loving family members and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, in the gathering space of St. Catherine Chapel. The Vigil Prayer will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2024. Prayers of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery.
