April 1, 2016, Detroit – What seems to be an ordinary Easter ritual to many people brought great joy to Detroit children and their families as they gathered at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen to dye Easter eggs. The annual event is organized by the soup kitchen’s Rosa Parks Children and Youth Program, directed by Sister Nancyann Turner, OP. Watch the heart-warming coverage by reporter Robin Murdoch of Fox 2 Detroit.

March 31, 2016, New Orleans, Louisiana – Students from St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans, in conjunction with the Peace Center, distributed 35 bags of food and candy to seniors at Pine Street Apartments.

Encouraged by Adrian Dominican Sister Patricia Harvat, OP, the students collected food and candy. Many interrupted their Easter holiday to distribute the green bags at the apartment building during a downpour of rain on Holy Thursday, March 24. The Peace Center provided the bags, as well as ham.

Many of the seniors at Pine Street Apartments are regulars of the Peace Center, opened in 2014 by the Dominican Sisters of Peace, who also sponsor St. Mary’s Dominican High School. “We learned from [the seniors] that their supply of food runs out toward the end of the month,” explained Sister Suzanne Brauer, OP, of the Peace Center. “What better time to feed the hungry and spread the message of new life than at Easter!”

Sister Pat ministers as Vice President of Dominican Catholic Identity at St. Mary’s Dominican High School. She was elected in February 2016 to serve as General Councilor for the Adrian Dominican Sisters, effective July 1, 2016.
