May 3, 2019 – Religious Studies Professor Joe Raab, PhD, of Siena Heights University concludes the three-part Siena Series at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019, with his talk, “The Catholic Church: Abuse, Accountability, and Aspiration.” The talk will be held at Weber Retreat and Conference Center. In light of the #MeToo movement, Professor Raab takes a look at sexual abuse and the future of the Catholic Church. 

The cost for the program is $10, or free for those who have already paid for the Siena Series. Registration is required and is available at www.webercenter.org; click on “programs.” Registrations may also be made by contacting Weber Center at 517-266-4000 or [email protected].

December 21, 2018 – Weber Retreat and Conference Center offers a three-part series of talks exploring contemporary themes of theology. Presented by faculty members of Siena Heights University’s Religious Studies Department, each of the three talks in the Siena Series begins at 1:30 p.m. at Weber Center.

The themes and dates of the talks are as follows:

  • “The Bible Says What?” Tuesday, February 5, 2019 – Professor Ian Bell explores issues raised by scriptural stories about women and shows how re-examining those stories can serve as a resource for the Church.
  • “The Problem with Providence,” Thursday, March 7, 2019 – Noting the common Christian belief in divine providence and the belief by some that God’s plan is not going well these days, Assistant Professor Wendy Crosby helps participants to understand how that providence might be leading them into action.
  • Catholicism in Crisis: Abuse, Accountability and Aspiration,” Wednesday, March 20, 2019 – Professor Joseph Raab discusses sexual abuse and the future of the Catholic Church in light of the “Me Too” Movement. [note title and date change]
