August 20, 2019, Henderson, Nevada – On the 72nd Anniversary of the arrival of Adrian Dominican Sisters to assume leadership at the hospital they named St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, staff members were commissioned to continue their healthcare service in a new way: as employees of CommonSpirit Health.

Launched on February 1, 2019, CommonSpirit Health resulted from the ministerial alignment of two health care systems: Dignity Health and Catholic Health Initiatives. The new healthcare system includes 142 hospitals and more than 700 care sites in 21 states – including St. Rose Dominican Hospitals in Henderson and Las Vegas, Nevada, and Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, California. Both were founded and sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters.

During the commissioning ceremony, Sister Phyllis Sikora, OP, noted that the leaders and staff members experienced both change and continuity – a change in healthcare systems yet a continuity in their healing ministry.

Along with Sister Phyllis, Adrian Dominican Sisters who presided at the commissioning and blessing were Sisters Victoria Dalesandro, OP, Kathleen McGrail, OP, Sharon Bossler, OP, Judy Nelson, OP, and Mary Jean Williams, OP. Also presiding were Father Robert Nyeko, Director of Mission Integration for the San Martin Campus of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, and Father Thomas Ayepa, Director of Mission Integration for the Siena Campus.
