August 12, 2019, Adrian, Michigan — Siena Heights University will open its 2019-2020 academic year— its Centennial Year — with the dedication of the Centennial Mall in front of Sacred Heart Hall. The dedication is slated for Monday, August 26, 2019, the first day of classes. The diverse elements of the Mall — a huge sculpture of a torch, 10 apple trees planted in rows of five on either side of a walkway, three flag poles, and the crucifix shape of the mall — are meant to remind the university community in years to come of the school’s Adrian Dominican heritage. The Adrian Dominican Sisters founded the university — then St. Joseph College — in 1919 and it remains a sponsored institution of the Congregation.
