Wilmette, Illinois, October 2, 2024The following article is republished with permission from the September 2024 issue of DVM News, the newsletter of Dominican Veritas Ministries (DVM).

Members of the Regina Dominican High School community celebrated Mass and the installation of its new President, Krista Gallagher. The event included school faculty, staff, current families, students, alumnae, and supporters of Krista Gallagher.

The Mass was presided over by Father Peter Wojcik, of St. Clement Parish. Leading the installation ceremony was Adrian Dominican Sister and DVM member Sister Mary Margaret Pachucki, OP, and DVM Executive Director Dr. Kristin Melley.

During her remarks, President Gallagher highlighted the impact Regina Dominican High School has on students and the importance of the school within the North Shore community of Chicago. “There is no greater source of confidence than the knowledge that God placed you here for a reason,” she said. “Regina girls know that they are valued.”

Regina Dominican High School is celebrating its 65th anniversary. With President Gallagher at the helm, the extraordinary successes of Regina Dominican students will continue.

Later in the month, DVM staff traveled to Houston, Texas, to visit with leaders of St. Pius X High School and St. Agnes Academy and to take part in the Mass of the Holy Spirit and installation ceremony for Dr. Karen Jakuback as St. Agnes Academy’s new Head of School.

During the installment, Dr. Melley reflected on the enduring mission of Dominican education, bringing light and truth to darkness. “We know that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it,” she said. “Today, Dr. Jakuback, we not only invite you into this legacy. We entrust you to lead us in carrying this light of St. Agnes Academy into the future.”

Also attending this special occasion were DVM member Sister Donna Pollard, OP; DVM, Inc. Trustees Mike O’Connor and Margaret O’Donnell, and DVM Director of Formation Nate Friday. DVM is excited for the gifts, enthusiasm, and talent of our new school leaders. Welcome to the Dominican Family!

DVM Welcomes Peace Schools
The Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life at the Vatican has approved the transfer of sponsorship of four schools from the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Peace to DVM. The transfer of sponsorship will preserve the Catholic and Dominican identity of the schools for generations of students to come. In a sign of God’s providence, the approval letter from the Dicastery was signed on July 22, 2024, the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene, Patroness of the Dominican Order. The four new DVM schools are Our Lady of Elms School, Akron, Ohio; St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School, Memphis, Tennessee; Dominican Academy, New York, New York; and St. Mary’s Dominican High School, New Orleans, Louisiana.
