September 27, 2019, Adrian, Michigan – About 70 freshmen of Regina Dominican High School learned about themselves, their classmates, and the Dominican Family during a retreat at the Motherhouse of the Adrian Dominican Sisters.

The theme of the August 22-23, 2019, retreat – organized by Sister Katherine Frazier, OP, Director of Mission Integration at the high school, and Lisa Boris, Campus Minister – was “We Are (Dominican) Family.” The retreat focused on what it means to be a member of the Dominican community and what the community values while building a sense of community within the freshman class, Sister Katherine explained.

Along with formal sessions on the Dominican charism and pillars (community, study, prayer, ministry), the students met and interacted with the Sisters at the Motherhouse. After guided tours of the Motherhouse campus, students played board games with Sisters before dinner. The next day, they joined the Sisters at Morning Prayer and enjoyed a sing-along with them. The retreat also gave the students the opportunity to serve the Sisters through an Amigo (scooter) and Wheelchair Wash.

“It’s been nice to grow closer to our classmates,” said student Kate Langfels. “It was really good that we did it so early [in the school year] so we get to know each other more and we hang out with different people.” She also appreciated the connection among the four pillars and the opportunity to talk to and serve the Sisters.

Student Kendall Maloney enjoyed the experience. “It’s been really cool to find out about how we bond as a grade and how our faith connects us. We really learned the basis of the Dominicans and how they came to be.”
