On the last day of May, we celebrated the Feast of the Visitation, a feast that commemorates the visit of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth. Both women were filled with life yet to be born. Both women anticipated what their hearts could only begin to imagine.
Like each of us, Mary and Elizabeth must have wondered about what the future held for them and the lives they held. Would the life they carried come to birth? What would this new life be? How could they nurture what was yet unseen?
When we engage in discernment, like Mary and Elizabeth, we know that we hold something precious within us. We know that there are decisions that must be made to protect the gift of life that God has so generously given us. When we discern we pray that God might be with us and guide us in how we can joyously offer that life to others, whether that life be given to a partner, a family, a community, or the Church.
As we move towards the conclusion of the Easter season this Pentecost Sunday, let us pray that we listen carefully to how the Spirit is guiding us.
Blessings, Sister Maribeth
