“…lying at the door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table.” (Luke 16:20)

Religious life as we Dominican Sisters live it, is a life of service. As today’s Gospel highlights the story of the rich man and the poor and suffering man, Lazarus, I was reminded of the importance of service to others.

St. Catherine of Siena teaches us this way: “I [God] have placed you among other humans so that you can do for them what you cannot do for me [God], namely respond to their needs.” As Christians, we all are called to respond to others’ needs, but as a religious Sister, this is a top priority.

If you love to serve others or are keen to see injustices made right, consider that you may be called to this life of service. Prayer for the needs of those who suffer, community conversations, support and action as well as study of the issues surrounding the roots of injustice comprise our lives and support this service everyday of our lives!

Creada Para Servir

"... acostado en la puerta había un pobre hombre llamado Lázaro, cubierto de llagas, que con gusto se habría comido hasta los restos que cayeron de la mesa del rico." (Luke 16:20)

La Vida Religiosa como nosotras las Hermanas Domínicas la vivimos, es una vida de servicio. Como el Evangelio de hoy destaca la historia del hombre rico y del hombre pobre y sufriente, Lázaro, recordé la importancia del servicio a los demás.

Santa Catherina de Siena nos enseña de esta manera: “Yo [Dios] te he puesto entre otros humanos para que puedas hacer por ellos lo que no puedes hacer por mí [Dios], es decir, responder a sus necesidades. Como Cristianas, todas somos llamadas a responder a las necesidades de los demás, pero como hermana religiosa, esta es una prioridad.

Si le encanta servir a los demás o desea ver las injusticias corregidas, considere que puede ser llamada a esta vida de servicio. ¡La oración por las necesidades de los que sufren, las conversaciones comunitarias, el apoyo y la acción, así como el estudio de los problemas de la injusticia envuelven nuestras vidas y apoyan este servicio todos los días de nuestras vidas!
