The quote above can be a guide for how to know this is my calling, my vocation. Before a young woman discovers the response to where my gladness meets the world’s needs, the word vocation is a dilemma that can be confusing and frustrating. If you are a person with many gifts and with many opportunities offered to you, then give yourself the time for quiet and thinking this through. What is it, that when you are engaged in it you sense a rightness and a fit about it? 

It could be as you are absorbed in some service to people who need whatever you’re doing for them. It could be the pull on your heart when you work with those who don’t seem to get a fair shake in life or those thirsty for knowledge or those who suffer physically or mentally or feeling unsettled by the needs you see. Whatever the need is of the people you are serving, if your acts of serving them leave you with joy, satisfaction, a sense of deep meaning at having made a difference, these could be signs of your calling.

As Sister Raphael Considine writes in her poem, Trasna, “You will have light enough for your next step.” Your next step may be to talk these experiences over with a mentor, spiritual director, or a good friend and hear what they think about your discovery. This light is what God gives for your discernment journey.

¿Cómo Puedo Saber?

La cita anterior puede ser una guía sobre cómo saber que este es mi llamado, mi vocación. Antes de que una joven descubra la respuesta a dónde mi alegría satisface las necesidades del mundo, la palabra vocación es un dilema que puede resultar confuso y frustrante. Si usted es una persona con muchos dones y con muchas oportunidades que se le ofrecen, tómese el tiempo para estar tranquila y pensar en esto. ¿Qué es lo que, cuando se dedica a ello, siente que es correcto y queda bien?

Podría ser cuando está envuelta en algún servicio a personas que necesitan lo que sea que esté haciendo por ellos. Podría ser el impulso de su corazón cuando trabaja con aquellos que no parecen recibir un trato justo en la vida o aquellos que están sedientos de conocimiento o aquellos que sufren física o mentalmente o se sienten inquietos por las necesidades que ve. Cualquiera que sea la necesidad de las personas a las que está sirviendo, si sus actos de servirles le dejan gozo, satisfacción, un sentido de profundo significado por haber hecho una diferencia, estos podrían ser señales de su llamado.

Como escribe la Hermana Raphael Considine en su poema, Trasna, "Tendrás suficiente luz para tu próximo paso." Su próximo paso puede ser hablar de estas experiencias con una mentor, una directora espiritual o una buena amiga y escuchar lo que piensan sobre su descubrimiento. Esta luz es la que Dios da para su camino de discernimiento.
