Silent, Holy Night

Our winter days and nights in the northern hemisphere prepare us to welcome the great feast of the Incarnation of the Lord. God comes to the human community in the child born of Mary in the stable in Bethlehem. For weeks before the celebration each year, the world turns on the Christmas lights as we enter the activities of anticipation. I am always excited and looking forward to the beauty and newness of this great feast.

What does Christmas mean to you this year? Will you befriend someone you did not expect to meet? Will you hide from the activities as you seek some of your own quiet time? Will you allow the arrival of this blessed feast to open you to some new ideas and wonderment? These are the questions and blessings of the Christmas time.

This child to be born in our hearts, like so many newborn children, brings gifts of hope, peace, love and delight to those who are blessed to receive them. When hope seems distance and dark, this event can offer a new look at hope. When peace seems impossible as it is disrupted by war, violence and selfishness, this event renews the promise of peace. When love is not recognized or given, this feast reminds us once again that love needs no invitation, it showers us when we least expect it.

Take some time to remember the gifts that Christmas gives to you. I plan to remember, recall and renew with grateful love, the people, places and blessings, this silent, holy night has given to me. Won’t you join me in this blessed time of remembrance and newness of life?

Noche de Paz

Nuestros días y noches de invierno en el hemisferio norte nos preparan para recibir la gran fiesta de la Encarnación del Señor. Dios llega a la comunidad humana en el niño nacido de María en el pesebre de Belén. Durante las semanas antes de la celebración cada año, el mundo prende las luces navideñas al entrar en las actividades de anticipación. Siempre me emociono y espero con anticipación la belleza y la novedad de esta gran fiesta.

¿Qué significa la Navidad para usted este año? ¿Se hará amiga de alguien que no esperaba conocer? ¿Se esconderá de las actividades para buscar un momento de tranquilidad? ¿Permitirá que la llegada de esta bendita fiesta le abra a nuevas ideas y asombro? Estas son las preguntas y las bendiciones de la Navidad.

Este niño que nacerá en nuestros corazones, como tantos recién nacidos, trae regalos de esperanza, paz, amor y alegría a quienes tienen la bendición de recibirlos. Cuando la esperanza parece lejana y obscura, este evento puede ofrecer una nueva perspectiva a la esperanza. Cuando la paz parece imposible, perturbada por la guerra, la violencia y el egoísmo, este evento renueva la promesa de paz. Cuando el amor no se reconoce ni se da, esta fiesta nos recuerda una vez más que el amor no necesita invitación, nos colma cuando menos lo esperamos.

Tome un tiempo para recordar los regalos que le da la Navidad. Yo planeo recordar, y renovar con amor agradecido, las personas, lugares y bendiciones que esta noche silenciosa y santa me ha regalado. ¿Se unirá conmigo en este bendito momento de recordatorio y renovación de vida?
