Discerning vowed life at times can be overwhelming. “What is God really asking of me,” is a very serious and deeply personal question. It is one you and God will answer together. However, it is important not to let this question become a burden. It is important to take a break from the question now and again. Many times, it is during the time away from the question that answers reveal themselves.

Discernment does not take place in a vacuum. Spending time with friends and family, enjoying hobbies, and other activities will enhance your conversations with God. Some activities may even bring on vital personal reflection. I enjoy using watercolors, going out to dinner with friends, and joining in the family fun with my grandnieces. Looking back, I found clarity of my vocation in all these activities. So, when you feel the question getting too heavy, take a break!

Tomando un Descanso

Discernir la vida consagrada a veces puede ser abrumador. “Lo que Dios realmente me pide,” es una pregunta muy seria y profundamente personal. Es una pregunta a la cual usted y Dios responderán juntos. Sin embargo, es importante no dejar que esta pregunta se convierta en una carga. Es importante tomar un descanso de la pregunta de vez en cuando. Muchas veces, es durante el tiempo alejada de la pregunta que las respuestas se revelan.

El discernimiento no ocurre en el vacío. Pasar tiempo con amigas y familiares, disfrutar de pasatiempos y otras actividades mejorará sus conversaciones con Dios. Algunas actividades pueden incluso generar una reflexión personal vital. Me gusta pintar con acuarelas, salir a cenar con amigas y unirme a la diversión familiar con mis sobrinas nietas. Mirando hacia atrás, encontré claridad de mi vocación en todas estas actividades. Así que, cuando sienta que la pregunta se vuelve demasiado pesada, ¡tómese un descanso!
