The Role of a Vocation Director 

Reaching out to a vocation director is the second step after making a few first explorations about the possibilities of becoming a sister. Generally, a vocation director is associated with a particular religious congregation or with a diocese. A diocesan vocation director will let you know more about religious congregations already present within the diocese, and a vocation director from a religious congregation will help you learn more about her particular community. 

Often, a vocation director will be the first person you interact with when you reach out to a religious congregation. A vocation director will answer your questions and run Come and See Retreats. Vocation directors are often happy to meet with you one-on-one to answer questions and help you learn how to discern. As a woman continues to discern with a congregation, a vocation director might also arrange visits with the sisters in the congregation or other experiences so the discerner can get to know the congregation better.

Vocation directors also are interested in learning about you, since this will help them figure out if you might be a good fit for the congregation. Sometimes, a vocation director might suggest visiting another congregation whom they believe might be a fit for the discerner or help a discerner recognize that a different form of religious life might be best. For example, someone who is interested in doing mission work in foreign countries might not be a good fit for a monastic community committed to remaining in one place! Vocation directors will also let you know if there are any impediments, or roadblocks, to becoming a sister and whether they can be addressed or if they mean that you are being called to a different way of life. On the other hand, vocation directors will affirm a call in a woman and provide her with the tools to explore that call further.

El Papel de la Directora De Vocación 

Ponerse en contacto con una directora de vocación es el segundo paso después de hacer algunas exploraciones iniciales sobre las posibilidades de convertirse en hermana. Por lo general, una directora de vocación está asociado con una congregación religiosa en particular o con una diócesis. Una directora de vocación diocesano le informará más sobre las congregaciones religiosas que ya están presentes en la diócesis, y una directora de vocación de una congregación religiosa le ayudará a aprender más sobre su comunidad en particular.

Muchas veces, una directora de vocación será la primera persona con la que interactúe cuando se ponga en contacto con una congregación religiosa. Una directora de vocación responderá a sus preguntas y organizará retiros de Ven y Mira. Las directoras de vocación les da mucho gusto en reunirse con usted en persona para responder a sus preguntas y ayudarle a aprender a discernir. A medida que una mujer continúa discerniendo con una congregación, una directora de vocación también puede organizar visitas con las hermanas de la congregación u otras experiencias para que la mujer que está discerniendo pueda conocer mejor a la congregación.

Las directoras de vocación también están interesados en conocerla, ya que esto les ayudará a determinar si podría ser una buena opción para la congregación. A veces, una directora de vocación podrá sugerir visitar otra congregación que ella cree puede ser adecuada para la persona que está discerniendo o ayudar a una persona que está discerniendo a reconocer que una forma diferente de vida religiosa podría ser lo mejor. Por ejemplo, alguien que está interesada en hacer trabajo misionero en países extranjeros podría no ser una buena opción para una comunidad monástica comprometida a permanecer en un lugar! Las directoras de vocación también le informará si hay impedimentos u obstáculos, para convertirse en hermana y si se puedan abordar o si significan que está siendo llamada a una forma de vida diferente. Por otro lado, las directoras de vocación afirmarán un llamado en una mujer y le brindarán las herramientas para explorar a ese llamado más a fondo.
