The other day the Catholic church celebrated the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, one of my favorite saints. My Irish grandmother introduced me to St. Anthony at a very young age as I had a habit of misplacing things. Actually, that part is still true today – my keys, my phone, even my train of thought get lost from time to time. While St. Anthony is certainly not a magician, taking a moment to pray, to relax my harried brain usually allows me to breathe deeply and remember where I last set down the item I am looking for.

Occasionally what I am looking for is not something physical, but something spiritual. In time of challenge, either at work or in relationships, I am called to prayer for guidance and find solace in the saints who were ordinary people who used their gifts. I find it comforting that these men and women were not perfect and the fact that I am not either is important as I continue to discern the call God has for me. We have many saints in our lives that help guide us along the way. Some are the people we love who have gone before us, or some might even be in our lives today. So, when you are not sure of the next step on the path or you have mislaid the route, reach out to the saints around you to help you back to the path.

Los Santos en Nuestras Vidas

El otro día la iglesia Católica celebró la fiesta de San Antonio de Padua, uno de mis santos favoritos. Mi abuela Irlandesa me presentó a San Antonio a una edad muy temprana, ya que tenía la costumbre de perder las cosas. En realidad, esa parte sigue siendo cierta hoy en día – mis llaves, mi teléfono, aún el hilo de mi pensamiento se pierde de vez en cuando. Aunque San Antonio ciertamente no es un mago, tomarme un momento para orar, para relajar mi cerebro entenebrecido, generalmente me permite respirar profundamente y recordar dónde dejé por última vez el objeto que estaba buscando.

De vez en cuando lo que busco no es algo físico, sino algo espiritual. En momentos de desafío, ya sea en el trabajo o en las relaciones, soy llamada a la oración para recibir guianza y encontrar consuelo en los santos que eran personas comunes que usaron sus dones. Encuentro consuelo que estos hombres y mujeres no fueran perfectos y el hecho de que yo tampoco lo soy es importante a medida que sigo discerniendo el llamado que Dios tiene para mí. Tenemos muchos santos en nuestras vidas que nos ayudan a guiarnos en el camino. Algunos son las personas que amamos que nos han precedido, o algunos podrían estar en nuestras vidas hoy. Así que, cuando no está segura del siguiente paso en el camino o se haya perdido la ruta, comuníquese con los santos que la rodean para que le ayuden a regresar al camino.
