(1928-2016)

Sister Patricia Cecile Slattery was born on August 26, 1928, in St. Joseph, Michigan.  Baptized Patricia Jean, she was the youngest of three children born to Clifford and Opal (Taylor) Slattery. Her father was born in Stevensville, Michigan, and worked as an electrician. Her mother was born in Lafayette, Indiana. Opal was a convert and worked in a factory so their children could attend Catholic school.  Patricia her brother John Thomas and sister Mary Catherine attended St. Joseph School from grades one through twelve.

(1938 - 2015)

Sister Rose Irene, baptized Mary Ann Calvert, was born on November 14, 1937, in Detroit. She was the fourth of five children born to Leon and Veronica (Good) Calvert.  In her autobiography, Sister Rose wrote the following about her family.

My father came to this country as a young adult from Munich, Germany.  Actually, his last name was Schweitzer which he quickly changed upon his arrival [because he was] afraid he would be sent back to his own country. My father was a printer by trade, but later he and my Mom managed their own Calvert 5¢ to $1 Stores...

(1919-2016)

Baptized Mary Eileen Bartley, Sister Helen Patrick was born on October 2, 1918, in Chicago. She was the first of three girls born to Patrick and Helen (Walsh) Bartley. Her sisters were named Patricia and Catherine. When she was young the family moved to the Park Manor neighborhood and belonged to St. Columbanus Parish.

(1933-2016)

Sister Anne Baxter was born on July 10, 1932, in San Francisco and was given the name Barbara Anne by her parents, Camille Anne McCarthy and Earle Lester Baxter, who were of English-Irish descent.   

Sister Anne attended public grade schools in San Francisco and in Barstow in the Mojave Desert from first grade through sixth. She met the Adrian Dominicans at Holy Cross School in Santa Cruz, where she completed her elementary and secondary education. 

She entered the postulate in June 1949 and the following December received the habit and her religious name Sister Amata Marie. A year later, she made first profession and began the first phase of her ministry as an elementary teacher.
