May 4, 2018, Wilmette, Illinois – During Dominican Week – a time set aside to honor Regina Dominican High School’s heritage – the school marked the Feast of St. Catherine of Siena with a special Mass. Highlights included a Sister renewing her vows and conferring the school’s Veritas Award.

Sister Patricia Harvat, OP, General Councilor with the Adrian Dominican Sisters and member of Regina Dominican High School’s board, renews her vows.

Sister Patricia Harvat, OP, General Councilor of the Adrian Dominican Sisters and a member of the school’s board, renewed her vows on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee – 50 years as an Adrian Dominican Sister.

Kaitlin Clancy, a senior student, and Sue Endre, Registrar and Assistant to the Principal, received the Veritas Award. The award is presented to students and faculty or staff members who, like St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena, “exemplify a commitment to boldly preach the Gospel message and with veracity embrace and encourage a life of service to others.”

The Veritas Award was established to commemorate the 800th Jubilee of the Order of Preachers in 2016.

Mary Stenson, 2016-2017 recipient of the Veritas Award, presented this year’s recipients with the Veritas pin, a certificate, and gifts. Their names are now engraved on the Regina Dominican Perpetual Veritas Award plaque, which hangs in the school chapel.

Sister Jean Williams, OP, the Director of Mission Integration, shared comments from those who nominated Kaitlin and Sue.

Those who nominated Katie described her as afire with love of God and others, with a keen sense of community and respect for the dignity and beauty of all persons and the planet. She exemplifies joy, service, leadership, integrity, and the willingness to share her faith. Katie attended the Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference in Adrian and became a Dominican preacher, often sharing her reflections on the Gospel with the school community during the school year. In addition, Katie provided many hours of service to her parish, the local community, and the school.

Sue was recognized for exemplifying kindness and professionalism and for communicating words of wisdom and knowledge. She has served the Regina Dominican community for 18 years, pitching in to help anyone in need of assistance, always with a smile. She serves as the face of Regina Dominican, often the first person to welcome people who visit the school. Her deep faith, generous spirit, and keen sense of caritas help make Regina Dominican an exceptional community.

To promote the Dominican charism and heritage, the young Dominican preachers – students who attended the preaching conference in Adrian – planned activities for each of the four Dominican pillars: prayer, study, ministry, and community. Prayer each morning was based on a reflection by one of the Dominican preachers.
