Suppose you’ve been mulling over in your mind decisions about your life and feel like you’re getting nowhere. You’re feeling frustrated and wondering whether or not there will ever be answers you can live with. While you might not be starting over from scratch this new year, a new approach might help. Trying some new actions might give new results. It’s worth a try.

How about writing in a journal all those knotty questions you’ve been turning over in your head or that come to you in dreams while you’re trying to sleep? Taking one question a day and writing it at the top of the page, then writing all your thoughts and feelings about the question will get them outside yourself so you can look at what you’re thinking and feeling. A day or two later you can take a new question and do the same. When you reach the end of a few weeks you’ll have a treasure trove of your thoughts and reflections.

Maybe then it’s time to take your responses to these questions and share them with a trusted friend or spiritual director. Ask that person what they hear in your responses. You might be surprised at what a fresh set of ears can hear.

And, yes, I did mention a “spiritual director” who can be very helpful in listening to what God may be doing in our lives. If you don’t have that spiritual companion, maybe that’s the step you can take in this new year. There’s no reason you have to take this journey alone when there are people who will be your companion.

Un Año Nuevo: Una Pizarra En Blanco

Suponga que ha estado reflexionando sobre decisiones sobre su vida y siente que no está llegando a ninguna parte. Se siente frustrada y se pregunta si habrá respuestas con las que pueda vivir. Tal vez no estará empezando de nuevo en este nuevo año, pero un nuevo enfoque podría ayudarle. Probar algunas acciones nuevas podría dar nuevos resultados. Vale la pena intentarlo.

¿Qué tal si escribe en un diario todas esas preguntas complicadas que han estado dando vueltas en su cabeza o que le vienen en sueños mientras intenta dormir? Tomar una pregunta al día y escribirla al principio de la página, luego escribir todos sus pensamientos y sentimientos sobre la pregunta los sacará fuera de usted para que pueda ver lo que está pensando y sintiendo. Uno o dos días después, puede tomar una nueva pregunta y hacer lo mismo. Cuando llegue al final de algunas semanas, tendrá un tesoro escondido de sus pensamientos y reflexiones.

Quizás entonces sea el momento de tomar sus respuestas a estas preguntas y compartirlas con una amiga o director espiritual de confianza. Pregúntele a esa persona qué escucha en sus respuestas. Es posible que se sorprenda de lo que puede oír unos oídos nuevos.

Y sí, mencioné a un “director espiritual” que puede ser de gran ayuda para escuchar lo que Dios puede estar haciendo en nuestras vidas. Si no tiene esa compañera espiritual, quizás ese sea el paso que puede dar en este nuevo año. No hay razón para que tenga que emprender esta jornada sola cuando hay personas que serán su compañera.
