In Sunday’s Gospel parable the vineyard owner sent two groups of servants to the tenant farmers, one group more numerous than the one before. Both groups were rejected, beaten and some murdered. As a last resort he sent his son believing they would surely listen to him and turn over the fruits they owed him. 

Sometimes aren’t we like those stubborn tenants? Don’t we get reminders we dismiss and then get more reminders of what we’re called to do with our lives and just keep ignoring the messages or putting them off till later or worse, not listening at all? I don’t know about you, but I have done that.

When we’re discerning what to do with our precious and energetic lives, prayer can help us be open to the messages – and messengers - God sends. Sometimes the reminders come through people we know and who know us well. Other times they come through strangers or through something we happen to read or hear on a podcast. God is persistent in calling us to follow. No matter where the call comes from, God has us in mind and wants us to follow.

You can simply ask: Is that God’s voice I’m hearing?

¿Para Dónde?
En la parábola del Evangelio del domingo, el dueño de la viña envió dos grupos de sirvientes a los agricultores arrendatarios, un grupo más numeroso que el anterior. Ambos grupos fueron rechazados, golpeados y algunos asesinados. Como último recurso envió a su hijo creyendo que seguramente lo escucharían y le devolverían los frutos que le debían.

¿A veces no somos como esos arrendatarios testarudos? ¿Acaso no recibimos recordatorios que ignoramos y despues recibimos más recordatorios a lo que hemos sido llamadas en hacer con nuestras vidas y seguimos ignorando los mensajes o posponiéndolos para más tarde o peor, no hacer caso? No sé ustedes, pero yo lo he hecho.

Cuando discernimos qué hacer con nuestras preciosas y energéticas vidas, la oración puede ayudarnos a estar abiertas a los mensajes – y mensajeros - que Dios envía. A veces los recordatorios llegan a través de personas que conocemos y que nos conocen bien. Otras veces provienen de extraños o de algo que por casualidad leemos o escuchamos en un podcast. Dios es persistente en llamarnos a seguirlo. No importa de dónde venga el llamado, Dios nos tiene en mente y quiere que lo sigamos.

Simplemente se puede preguntar: ¿Será la voz de Dios que estoy escuchando?
